Eskay’s viola lessons cover topics such as proper posture, reading sheet music, and playing a variety of musical styles. Similar to the violin, the viola is a stringed instrument but features a deeper, richer sound. The viola is often featured in orchestras as a supporting string instrument that provides a fine tuned foundation for the other instruments. Whether you’re a beginner (lessons can start as early as age 6), or have some prior experience, our one-on-one lessons will help you develop your skills and achieve your musical goals. Making sure you hold the viola and bow at the correct angles is paramount to the student’s success. More advanced students will learn vibrato properly, how to shift in different positions on their instrument, as well as how to tune their instruments correctly! Eskay’s offers the popular “Suzuki” method, but as with all our lessons we will find a method that works best for the student. As the student familiarizes themselves with the violin and masters the basics, lessons can be extended to include more material. We also teach students how to shift properly, the usage of vibrato, and how to tune their instruments correctly! Our teachers can help prepare you for upcoming recitals, NYSSMA events, elementary, middle, and high school orchestra, and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
In-Home Viola Lessons
In-person viola lessons allow our students to gain the necessary one-on-one mentoring to begin their musical journey. Eskay’s proudly provides in-home lessons throughout Nassau County including the towns of Syosset, Jericho & Plainview. Teachers will come to your house on a weekly basis so you can learn the viola in the comfort of your own home! In person lessons are taught in 30, 45, or 60 minute sessions, depending on the student’s prior viola experience. As the student familiarizes themselves with the viola and begins to learn the basics fundamentals, lessons can be extended to 45 or 60 minute sessions which will include more material.
Virtual Viola Lessons
Eskay’s is proud to offer virtual viola lessons in addition to our in-person option. Similar to in-person, online lessons are taught in 30, 45 or 60 minute sessions. It is important to make sure your space is quiet and you have enough room to move and play your instrument during the virtual lesson. All virtual viola lessons are held over Zoom and can be recorded for the student’s convenience. Our one-on-one online music lessons gives the student ample attention and a great way to learn!
